The annual Optimist soup luncheon is a fundraiser whose funds go toward the Optimist Club for various activities which benefit the youth of our community. These include an annual Youth Appreciation Banquet where young people of our community are recognized for their contributions to the community. They are nominated by school counselors and church organizations. Another activity is Biking for School Supplies where children take part in a bike ride which tests their knowledge of various safety rules. When they complete the "obstacle course," they are given a back pack filled with school supplies. The club also sponsors an Essay contest and an Oratorical contest for high school students. These contests provide the opportunity to go and compete on a district level where they can receive an award of a $2500.00 scholarship. The club also gives two local $500.00 scholarships annually. Last, but not least, the club participates in the Childhood Cancer program which helps families with expenses they encounter during treatment.
The luncheon features the three "C's": Cheeseburger, Chili, and Chicken Noodle soups along with delicious cinnamon rolls and dessert bars. There are also fun raffle items and a bake sale.
