South Sioux City, Neb., February 22, 2023 – Representatives from the City of South Sioux City, City of Dakota City, Northeast Community College, South Sioux City Community School, Siouxland Community Health Center and the South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism traveled to Lincoln yesterday for the Northeast Nebraska Day at the Capitol.

“What a great opportunity to expand our industrial base, housing, enhance retail sales, and improve our historic appreciation. While not easy, we can succeed with sound planning,” said Lance Hedquist, City Administrator for the City of South Sioux City.

The event, which was attended by other Northeast Nebraska Chambers of Commerce and respective area representatives, included remarks from Gov. Jim Pillen, Bryan Slone, President of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Speaker of the Legislature John Arch, and the Nebraska Departments of Education and Economic Development.

“The Chamber is so grateful for the involvement of key partners in our community who took time out of their busy schedules to help plan and execute our agenda. In Lincoln, we were able to advocate for issues that are vital and unique to our area and showcase how we contribute to the state of Nebraska at large. After a day full of productive meetings, I am glad to say our trip was a great success and we look forward to our next trip to Lincoln,” said Aron Wehr, President, South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

In addition, the South Sioux City group held meetings with Governor Pillen and a representative from the office of Senator Fischer (R-NE) before the official events started. Topics of discussion included issues affecting the South Sioux City area such as education, transportation and infrastructure, health care, and environmental among others.

“Attending such events as the Northeast Nebraska Chamber Day in Lincoln can be so beneficial for our local organizations and businesses. We had such a productive conversation with Governor Pillen about the issues that are important to South Sioux City and the region, having this type of opportunity for one-on-one time to discuss issues can help our community in so many ways,” said Brendyn Richards, Director of Development and Advocacy for the Siouxland Community Health Center.

“Being part of a regional delegation to Lincoln serves as a visible reminder that many like-minded individuals are interested in continuing the workforce and economic growth of Northeast Nebraska and particularly the South Sioux City area.  As a collective group, we demonstrate we have like interests and work collaboratively together to achieve the most impact,” said Dr. Cynthia Hanson, Dean of Workforce Development, Northeast Community College.
