Join us at the South Sioux City Public Library on Monday, August 4th from 12PM–1PM for Sioux City on the Music Circuit: 50 Years of Big Names, Great Music, and Memorable Venues: 1920–1969, presented by historian Russ Gifford. Admission is free.
For decades, Sioux City was a key stop on the national music circuit, drawing legendary performers like Louis Armstrong, Elvis, and the Beach Boys. With its central location, vibrant dance halls, and powerful radio reach, the city helped shape the rise of jazz, swing, and rock ’n’ roll. From venues like the Skylon and Shore Acres to the stories behind the scenes, this program brings to life the rich musical heritage that once put Sioux City on the map.
Russ Gifford is a speaker, researcher, and storyteller who brings history to life through vivid storytelling, multimedia, and deep insight. With more than 350 unique talks presented across 10 states, Russ connects national history with local stories and everyday people. Whether exploring steamboat routes or the roots of rock ’n’ roll, his programs highlight how history happens everywhere—and why it matters.
