Wayne State College is seeking an Assistant Director of Energy & Utilities.
Nature of Work:
Manage and supervise all aspects of the energy and utilities unit including the institution’s energy plant, heating and cooling systems (HVAC), plumbing, fire/life safety, and electrical systems. Supervise, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate energy and utility staff. Serves as the unit’s leader and is responsible for developing and implementing an effective strategic plan. Exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in assigning, reviewing, and performance of work.
Examples of Work Performed:
1. Manages the energy and utilities staff to ensure the campus infrastructure functions effectively and efficiently.
2. Oversees and assesses building management systems and electrical infrastructure.
3. Serves as an administrator of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for the energy and utilities unit.
4. Develops and implements a strategic plan for the unit which includes benchmarking to industry standards, training and professional development, equipment replacement planning, and analysis of workload and staffing levels.
5. Analyzes energy usage data and develops recommendations for energy efficiencies that reduce budget and improve environmental impacts.

6. Assist staff with campus maintenance work load to meet the campus demand and needs.
7. Serve as a first responder to after hour maintenance calls.
8. Researches and writes federal, state, and private grants associated with energy efficiency.
9. Negotiates, monitors, and oversees contracted services as well as oversees the procurement process for the energy and utilities unit.
10. Develops and manages the unit’s budgets.
11. Ensures compliance with Board policy; city, state, and federal codes as well as safety rules and regulations.
12. Provides the Director of Facility Services with recommendations on unit improvements and efficiencies.
13. Collaborates effectively with faculty, staff, students and campus visitors in the coordination of services.
14. Provide technical knowledge; resourcefulness; initiative; mature judgment; leadership; and strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
15. Practice innovative problem solving.
16. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Facility Services.
17. Fill in as needed for the Director in his/her absence.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree and 4 years of related experience, or 6 years of related experience.
- 1 year of supervisory level experience.
