LOCATION:              South Sioux City, NE 68776

REPORTS TO:                   Unit Manager or higher at the reporting location, with a dotted line to the US/CAN Operations Training Manager

 

SUPERVISION:

This is an individual contributor role, without direct reports. The position requires close collaboration with department and plant leaders, as well as cross functional teams. The role works under the direct guidance and strategic alignment of the US/CAN Operations Training Team and may provide support at both the site and regional level.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical Training Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering, and tracking process and technical skills training within manufacturing plants. This role ensures employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their jobs effectively and safely. Working closely with department leadership, the Technical Training Specialist identifies training gaps, implements targeted solutions, and supports continuous improvement to drive operational excellence.


JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Essential functions supporting plant processes and technical skills training include the following tasks:
 

  • Collaborate with department leadership to develop, manage, maintain, and track job skills qualification programs and monitor versatility trends.

  • Maintain a consistent method of evaluating and documenting job skill qualifications and program training effectiveness

  • Develop and maintain technical skills matrices and career paths for associate-level and maintenance positions.

  • If applicable, lead and execute the implementation of Project Tiphys. Develop proficiency levels within operations positions and establish clear criteria that can be assessed to enhance employees' capabilities.

  • Provide incite for skills progression programs for technological skill advances within Maintenance, Reliability and Utilities.

  • In collaboration with the department and Ingredion Performance System (IPS) leadership, analyze field and digital assessment data to identify training gaps and address them through targeted programs.

  • Update and maintain training checklists, SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and process control documents to reflect current plant operations for training purposes.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain annual training calendars for process and technical skills training.

  • Partner with local HR to assist new associates, when applicable, during new hire orientation.

  • Implement, manage, and maintain the prerequisite onboarding program "Project Bedrock" for new hires.

  • Partner with EHS&S and Quality Departments to identify, assign, and track mandatory training for compliance and audit requirements.

  • Ensure all safety and quality/GMP programs and procedures are followed, including preparation of required documentation.

  • Partner with local HR to monitor upcoming job transitions and develop systems/programs to capture legacy knowledge. (ex. retirements)

  • Partner with Unit and IPS Leadership on the development, execution, and tracking of IPS programs within departments.

  • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve technical skills training by exploring new technologies and methods to stay competitive in the industry.

  • Engage in continuous learning about the process and seek additional training to increase knowledge.

  • Assist with managing the training budget for process and technical skills training.

  • If applicable, attend Tier meetings for departments, shifts, and employees to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Attend meetings to communicate training statuses, programs, and gaps to Plant Leadership.
     

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of previous experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Read, write, and speak English

  • Must be able to pass a background check for education, work history, and criminal record

  • Must be able to successfully pass a physical and drug screen as applicable by local government

  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of manufacturing plant operations processes and technical skills training.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with various departments and leadership.

  • Ability to validate training and qualification of associates through observation and verbal testing.

  • Ability to analyze field and digital assessment data to identify training gaps and develop targeted programs.

  • Knowledge of safety and quality (GMP/ISO) programs and procedures, including compliance and audit requirements.

  • Capability to provide constructive feedback to improve operating efficiency, quality, customer service, and safety.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and seeking additional training to increase knowledge.

  • Willingness to explore new technologies and methods to enhance technical skills training.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing training needs, identifying performance gaps and root causes, and recommending solutions to achieve desired performance outcomes.

  • Demonstrated technical competence through training and/or experience to provide perspective about prerequisites and adjacent projects/experiences to enhance the learning objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule and successfully manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to train/pass on knowledge/understanding of how to transfer knowledge and expectations.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in all Microsoft office tools.

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in collaboration and virtual meeting tools (Zoom, Teams, etc.)

  • Experience leading and developing training programs in a manufacturing environment.

  • Prior experience in project management skills and the ability to facilitate organizing and managing multiple priorities and/or projects.

  • Prior experience in maintaining accurate records, training checklists, SOPs, work instructions, and other process control documents

  • Experience in leading and/or managing a team directly or indirectly.

  • Basic understanding of managing training budgets.

  • Additional Language proficiency: Spanish

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to physically move throughout a food manufacturing facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas.

  • Able to sit/work at a desk for extended periods of time doing things such as analytical work or reports, which require focus while utilizing a computer.
